Twitter makes the ‘Blue Tick’ public, starts taking requests for account verification
Key public figures and institutions can now get their own accounts verified on Twitter.
Microblogging giant Twitter has opened up its account verification feature to the public. Key public figures and institutions can now get the blue tick of account authenticity, by filling up a simple form. Twitter users will need the following before they can submit their request for verification – a verified phone number, a confirmed email address, a bio, a profile photo, a header photo, a birthday (for accounts that are not company, brand, or organization accounts), a website, and Tweets set as public in the Tweet privacy settings.
As per Twitter, "An account may be verified if it is determined to be of public interest. Typically this includes accounts maintained by public figures and organizations in music, TV, film, fashion, government, politics, religion, journalism, media, sports, business, and other key interest areas."
"We want to make it even easier for people to find creators and influencers on Twitter so it makes sense for us to let people apply for verification," said Tina Bhatnagar, Twitter's vice president of User Services. "We hope opening up this application process results in more people finding great, high-quality accounts to follow, and for these creators and influencers to connect with a broader audience."
