TweetDeck for iOS, Android and AIR to be decommissioned in May
Twitter announced that it would kill off TweetDeck apps for the iPhone, Android and Adobe AIR platforms in May
Twitter announced in a blog post that it will be discontinuing support for TweetDeck apps on the iOS and Android platforms for smartphones and tablets, as well as the Adobe AIR desktop platform. These apps will be removed from the respective app stores from early May and they will stop functioning soon after. These steps are being taken to focus on the development of web-based version of TweetDeck for modern browsers and a Chrome app. TweetDeck was acquired by Twitter in 2011.
In what can be seen as a result of the Twitter vs. Facebook rivalry, Twitter also discussed the discontinuation of support for the Facebook integration, in a blog. So, say goodbye to your Facebook status updates on TweetDeck as well.
The current TweetDeck apps run on Twitter’s API version 1.0 which is looking at retirement this month, so TweetDeck mobile users may experience some issues with the app. There was a mention of possible outages with these apps as well as the Twitter platform team will be conducting occasional tests on the newer API version 1.1 which may affect apps running on version 1.0.
