Truecaller CEO, Alan Mamedi has confirmed that the app will finally function as it should on iPhones with iOS 18.

Truecaller is a pretty popular app across the globe, it helps users identify who is calling them. But it has worked more swiftly for Android users, in comparison to those with iPhones. This is because of Apple’s privacy policies. Because of this, the ‘Caller ID’ feature didn’t work effectively. But there might be some relief with the upcoming iOS 18 update.

Back in 2022, an update improved the Apple users’ experience but it required users to interact with Siri to identify callers, adding an inconvenient extra step. However, with the upcoming iOS 18 update, Truecaller’s co-founder and CEO Alan Mamedi has confirmed that the app will finally function as it should on iPhones.

Mamedi took to X (formerly Twitter) to share this news. He said, “From the iOS 18 feature release documentation 🙂 Soon we will hopefully hear people say ‘Truecaller finally works on iPhone.’ Even though it has worked fairly OK in the last 2 years, this time it will be just like you would expect Truecaller to work, end to end.”

With iOS 18, iPhones will get new APIs that allow apps like Truecaller to fetch caller ID information in real time while maintaining user privacy. Because of this change, it will become easier for users to identify unknown callers without additional steps through the Truecaller app. iPhone users will finally experience Truecaller’s Live Caller ID lookup now.

Privacy has been a significant concern for Truecaller, especially after a 2022 investigation by The Caravan alleged that the app collected data without user consent. Truecaller denied these allegations, calling the investigation flawed and asserting its commitment to privacy and data security. Despite these issues, the iOS 18 update brings a breakthrough for iPhone users who have been eagerly awaiting improved functionality.

Even Truecaller’s co-founder Nami Zarringhalam shared his excitement on X, he said, “It’s been 9 years of grinding, and some amount of loss of faith in between at times. But soon everyone will be able to experience a smartphone the way we always knew they could, safe and trustworthy.”
