Today, YouTube is one of the most popular streaming platforms in the world. And a lot of professions have bloomed thanks to the platform, including mine. But have you ever given a thought to how things might look like if YouTube was never launched? It looks like a lot of my friends would have to switch careers. We got our hands on an image that goes back in time to when YouTube was in an ideating phase.
The mail was sent by Jawed Karim, who is one of the co-founders of YouTube, to his colleagues. It is pretty interesting. Here’s what he had to say.

“I don’t want to spell out the idea on the insecure email channel. Even if you say the phrase “Video H or N” in public, people will know what you mean, so let’s just call it Video. Don’t say it in combination with the H or N site 🙂
I just talked to both of you on the phone. I’m 100% convinced that this can be HUGE if executed right. It’s the kind of thing that will be picked up by MTV and Maxim right away.
Timing is perfect because video digital cameras are exploding right now. Our site should be video-only to emphasise the unique aspect of our site.”
This is one of the initial emails that was sent out by the co-founder. He thought that this was going to be “huge”. Fast-forward to today, the video-streaming platform has become pretty huge. It also sort of has a monopoly on the market. No one has come close to its success. It is interesting to see how ideas turn out to reality and to what extent.
