Spotify, the popular music streaming platform, is expanding its horizons beyond just music and podcasts. Now, it’s stepping into the world of education. Yes, you heard it right! Spotify wants to be more than just a place for music lovers – it wants to be your go-to platform for learning too. How? By introducing video-based courses. Let’s delve into the details.
Spotify has announced that it is testing video-based courses. For this, it has partnered with educational tech companies including BBC Maestro, PLAYvirtuoso, Skillshare, and Thinkific to bring video content directly to Spotify users.

It’s important to note that Spotify is currently testing video-based courses in the UK.

Users will find video courses for purchase alongside their favourite music, podcasts, and audiobooks.
The content for courses on Spotify will cover a range of topics categorised into four main themes: make music, get creative, learn business, and healthy living.
“At Spotify, we’re constantly striving to create new offerings for our creators and users, and having built best-in-class personalised music and podcast offerings, we look forward to exploring the potential of video-based learning on Spotify,” Babar Zafar, VP Product Development at Spotify, said.
Spotify stated that the platform is trying out video-based courses to explore a potential opportunity to provide educational creators with a new audience who can access their video content. Also, this will expand the company’s catalogue.
The company also mentioned that about half of Spotify Premium subscribers have engaged in education or self-help-themed podcasts.
For this test, UK Free users and Premium subscribers will be able to trial at least two lessons per course for free before making the decision to purchase additional lessons.
