HIGHLIGHTS

The design language change is called “Simple Snapchat”.

These three tabs will be messaging and Stories from friends, the camera, and a Reels-like feed.

This replaces the five tabs layout that we had seen previously, which included Snap Map also.

Snapchat recently hosted its annual Partner Summit in Los Angeles. Here, the company announced one of its biggest redesigns in years. As per the company, the new design focuses more on enhancing the user experience. It does so by streamlining navigation and placing more emphasis on content discovery and creator engagement.

The design language change is called “Simple Snapchat”. The interface has now been simplified from five to three main tabs. These three tabs will be one for messaging and Stories from friends, another for the camera, and a third dedicated to a Reels-like feed of full-screen videos from creators and publishers. According to Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel, “It brings people straight into our camera to express themselves.”

This replaces the five tabs layout that we had seen previously, which included Snap Map, private chats, the camera, Stories, and Spotlight, its rival to TikTok and Instagram Reels. Now, the Snap Map will be integrated into the messaging tab, alongside Stories from friends and followed creators. The Spotlight feature will merge with a new For You feed that showcases full-screen videos from media outlets, as well as creators, depending on your choice.

The company revealed that the main aim behind this redesign was to make Snapchat more accessible and appealing to users who often turn to Instagram for video content. As per Snap CEO, this will also help promote Snapchat creators. Further, by clubbing together Stories and video discovery, Snap aims to improve content monetization for creators via its revenue-sharing program.

The main reason behind the change is owed to a change in user behaviour. The new feeds will start rolling out slowly. Are you a Snapchat user? Do you like this new feed or the last one? Let me know in the comments.
