The latest version of the app will help users to have live and off-screen conversations.
Snapchat, the popular self-destructing photo-sharing service has added video chatting and instant messaging to its app in the biggest update of the app so far. The app is quite popular among teens who like sending selfies and other photos to their friends. The biggest selling point of the app has always been that photos will always self-destruct (delete) after 10 seconds. So the receiver has to always be online to view the sent photos.
With the new features, the self-destructing concept will be kept intact. “Until today, we felt that Snapchat was missing an important part of conversation: presence. There’s nothing like knowing you have the full attention of your friend while you’re chatting,” the company said in a blog post on Thursday.
Apart from the new features, the new app has a new look as well. The app has new icons and buttons. You can use swipes to navigate through the app which makes it look better. To start any type of conversation with a friend, all you need to do is swipe to the right from the main camera screen which gives you a list of all your friends.

Texts are deleted by default once you leave the chat screen but you can make the app remember some in case you want it to. Video chats by default are not stored anywhere.
Another new feature that has been added is that users can now send images stored in their smartphones as well. Earlier, the app only allowed uploading photos that were taken by the phone camera.
Snapchat had recently added option of sending video messages on Android. Founder of the app, Evan Spiegel turned down an offer from Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg last year. Facebook had offered $3 billion to Spiegel.
