In version 2.9, Skype for Windows Phone 8 features a filter that lets users see either all contacts, just Skype contacts, or only available contacts.

Microsoft has rolled out an update to its Skype for Windows Phone 8 app that focusses on performance improvements. Skype has also received improvements to the way contacts are managed and the Skype homescreen layout.

The update version 2.9 brings a filter that enables users to see Windows Phone contacts and Skype contacts split out in the Skype People List. The homescreen now allows users to pivot through app functions. The Favorite Contact tiles are smaller, which helps fits three contacts across the screen.

The updated Skype app for Windows Phone 8 devices is available on the Windows Phone store.

One of the much-awaited feature for Skype for WP8 is the video messaging, which is already available on the iOS and Android platforms. The feature, rolled out last month, allows users to send unlimited video messages to their Skype contacts – completely free of charge.

Skype recently rolled out an update to its Android app, bringing the UI close to the WP client.
