Skype 6.0 for Mac and Windows desktop rolls out
Skype has announced the launch of an updated version of its current desktop program for Windows and Mac. Dubbed as Skype 6.0, the voice over internet protocol application now features support for signing into the service via Microsoft or Facebook accounts. This means new users may not need a create a Skype account to access the service, as they had to earlier.
Skype’s update has a special emphasis on integration with Microsoft products. The update also brings the ability to instant message contacts from Hotmail, Outlook and Windows Live Messenger.
Skype in a blog post says it is working to improve a feature that will enable audio and video calls to Windows Live Messenger customers via Skype desktop clients. The feature is expected to be rolled out in coming weeks.
The Skype 6.0 for Windows desktop includes support for six more languages, namely Thai, Croatian, Slovenian, Serbian, Catalan and Slovak, bringing the total languages that Skype supports to 38. The user interface has been refreshed with a simpler and less cluttered look. The look for instant messaging and SMS sections have also been updated.
Moreover, users won’t see the online user counter at the bottom of their Skype Contacts in a bid to unclutter the UI and make more space for new contacts. Users can see all of their previous Skype profile images when changing their profile picture. To download Skype 6.0 for Windows, click here.
