You can access the Copilot beta from the Play Store.
Artificial Intelligence has taken over the world, and no I am not exaggerating. Every tech company is running around to put their best foot forward and get ahead in the race of AI. I agree that we are in the initial stages of this AI revolution and there’s a long way to go. But with each passing day, we see a new advancement. I am here yet again with a new update, this time about Microsoft’s Copilot AI. Microsoft is planning to make its Copilot the default assistant app on Android. Let’s see what it’s all about.
Mishaal Rehman took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to share that the newest beta version 27.9.420225014 for Microsoft Copilot allows you to make it your default assistant on Android. Traditionally, Google Assistant was the go-to assistant app on Android. Google recently gave an option to switch it with Gemini AI. Once Microsoft officially rolls out the feature, you will be able to do that with Copilot too.

So, you will be able to activate Copilot on any screen that you are using by simply long-pressing the power button or you could even swipe up from the bottom corners of your phone. Now, we do have a catch here. The beta version still has a lot of creases that need to be ironed out before Microsoft actually releases it. Whenever you trigger Copilot, it will launch its main activity page and not a floating UI, which could be annoying. It also doesn’t listen to your voice automatically, you will have to tap on the mic.

How to set up Microsoft Copilot as default assistant?
Well, like I said, Copilot as your primary assistant is only available in the beta version right now. If you would like to use it then you can access the Copilot beta from the Play Store. Once you do that, install the app, then go to Apps > Default apps > Digital Assistant app.
You will see “Google” on top of the screen, click on it and then select Copilot, and then click on “OK”.
That’s it, you now have Copilot as your virtual assistant.
