Right now, if you haven’t seen a photo edited by the photo editing app Prisma or heard about it, then it’s highly likely that you do not have social media accounts or a social life, for that matter. The app has become all the rage in photo editing superseding most of its competitors on the app stores. It recently launched on Android after topping the iOS charts and has seen over 10 million installs on the Google Play Store. All of its updates so far have been stability related and bug fixes, except for one in July that brought about the much needed Save button. A new update finally brings new features and addresses on of the biggest complaints Prisma users had – the performance. Let us have a better look at these changes :
Cropping and Rotation
Users can now finally crop their photos while they are editing them on the app. The update that hit the stores on August 4th now allows simple pinch and drag gestures to get the desired portion of the image in the frame that shows up after image selection/capture.
The image can also be rotated by 90 degrees using the circular arrow buttons on the crop image screen.
Filter blend
A feature more common in editing apps, now Prisma allows you to adjust the level of blending between the original photo and the filtered version. Prisma doesn’t apply filters over existing images like most editing apps. Instead, it reconstructs the image from ground up. So this feature essentially decides the percentage of each version that is displayed.
Performance update
This one’s certainly been due, with Android users complaining repeatedly about the delay each time they select a new filter. Now the app is much faster in terms of applying the filters and switching between them as well. Previously, prompts from the app stating that it is being used by too many people at the same time were quite common, and we have not seen that even since the update. It definitely makes the app much more appealing, although whether this has been brought about by a server upgrade or by software changes is currently unknown.
Potential features
In an Instagram post, Prisma labs have shared a new feature for the iOS app that takes a cue from Instagram’s own split screen filtering, that allows you to slide a bar across the image to see the filtered version on the right and original on the left of the bar. According to the post, this feature is coming soon to the Android version as well.
Also being rumored are potential video filters and video editing capabilities, that are already being sported by some Prisma alternatives on the app store. Whether or not that comes to fruition is yet to be seen. Stay tuned to our website for more updates on the same.
