After Netflix, Prime Video has now announced a change in the app to increase its revenue. The famous video streaming app owned by Amazon has stopped the Dolby services. Prime Video used to offer some content in Dolby Atmos sound and Dolby Vision HDR. Well, that has been removed from your basic plan and you will have to pay extra to Amazon to enjoy Dolby services. But wait, that’s not the only bad news here. Let’s talk about it in detail.

Amazon quietly made these changes and later it was first spotted by 4KFilme. Along with removing high-quality services, Prime Video also added ads to its paid subscriptions for which the company is also facing lawsuits. It was filed on Friday with allegations of breaching contracts and violating consumer protection laws. So, basically, now you are paying to watch content on Amazon but with ads and without Dolby services. However, if you want to watch content with Dolby and without any ads, you will have to pay more. Not done, right?

Speaking of additional charges, Amazon is asking for $2.99 more per month to gain access to Dolby services and remove ads. In India, Amazon Prime has four subscriptions; ₹299 (monthly), ₹599 (Quarterly), ₹1499 (annually), and ₹799 (Prime Lite annually). The Prime Lite subscription is kind of similar to how other plans are currently. However, it doesn’t offer high-quality content at all.

The Verge talked to an Amazon spokesperson, Katie Barker about this new change. She confirmed, “Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos capabilities are only available on the ad-free option, on relevant titles.”
