In a statement in 2019, Paytm has said, “Paytm neither charges nor will charge any convenience or transaction fee from customers on using any payment method which includes Cards, UPI and Wallet.” This move is a massive shift from what the company had stated back in 2019, causing users to be understandably upset.
Paytm charges a processing fee on mobile recharges
Paytm has started charging a convenience fee ranging from Rs 1 to Rs 6 for mobile recharges. 91mobiles found that upon attempting a mobile plan recharge of a low amount, Paytm charged a convenience fee of Rs 1, however, when attempting a mobile recharge for the most expensive plan, Paytm charged Rs 6 as a convenience fee. They also found that not all users were being levied these extra charges.
Many users were upset due to this unforeseen development, especially given that Paytm had released a statement back in 2019 confirming that the company doesn’t plan on ever charging convenience or transaction fees of any sort. Here are some of the user reactions on Twitter:
Why the double standards…Either claim that you charge convenience fee and take it or don't charge it… pic.twitter.com/pgf0rfObEZ
