IRCTC has announced an official IRCTC app, exclusively for Windows Phone and Windows 8. Available free of charge, now you can book train tickets on-the go.
IRCTC has unveiled a new IRCTC official app, in collaboration with Microsoft India. The app will be available exclusively on devices running on Windows Phone and Windows 8, according to a press release. Now users can plan their travel, book train tickets and do much more on-the-move, using their Windows Phone, Windows 8 tablet or PC. The app will be available for use throughout the day, except between 0800-1200 hrs and 2330-0030 hrs. It performs all the tasks that are available on the IRCTC website. Along with that, users get some new and exciting features, such as visual maps of train routes, Windows Phone live tiles glowing up as tickets and access to saved traveler profiles from multiple devices.
With the announcement of the app, Rakesh Tandon, CMD, IRCTC said, “We feel the app is ideal for the modern consumer who is always on the move. Windows is the most trusted and widely used platform and offers the requisite security required while handling vast amounts of personal and financial user data”.
Joseph Landes, General Manager – Developer and Platform Evangelism, Microsoft said, “We are excited to make the official IRCTC app available exclusively on the Windows platform. We are committed to bring exciting and new experiences to your Windows devices and will continue to create many such firsts.”
This could turn out to be a very good tactical move, so as to boost the sales of Windows operated handsets and other devices, notably in the Indian market, where over 20 million commuters are on the go, in a train on a daily basis.
The app will certainly make life easier for all kind of travelers. Booking tickets will now be so much more convenient and easy. Undoubtedly, ‘pure delight’ for Windows Phone users, as Microsoft are way behind in terms of, the availability of quality apps when compared with iOS and Android.
