Microsoft is taking on Apple’s camera app with its own app called Pix. The company says that the app can automatically adjust settings for each shot and enhance photographs. Besides taking photos and videos, the app comes with built in editing tools, filters, gallery view and sharing options. The app feature a number of settings that are designed to improve the quality of photographs.
The Smart Settings feature of the app automatically checks the scene and lighting between each picture and changes the setting accordingly. If a face is recognised in a shot, then the app also optimised the image in order to ensure that people look their best. There is also Moment capture that takes a burst of images, allowing the user to pick and choose the moment, while Best Image automatically selects up to three of the best pictures from the burst. Further, the discarded shots from the burst to enhance the quality of the best images that have been chosen.
Microsoft has also given its own take on Apple’s Live Photos called Live Image. The app creates a short looping video by stitching together frames from the burst. However, it does so only when it detects motion in the shot, which helps to conserve storage. There is also Hyperlapse that not only automatically stabilises videos shot with the app, but also allows them to be time lapsed at different speeds.
