Meta has announced that it is bringing broadcast channels on Facebook and Messenger. For those who are unaware, Meta rolled out broadcast channels on Instagram earlier this year. Broadcast channels are a public, one-to-many messaging tool for creators to directly engage with their followers.

“Broadcast channels are a public, one-to-many messaging tool for Pages on Facebook and are the latest addition to Facebook’s robust set of tools that Page admins such as creators and public figures can use to directly reach and further engage with their communities,” Meta said in a blogpost on October 18.

Admins of Pages can use broadcast channel features like polls to get instant feedback from their community, send behind the scenes photos or videos, and use voice notes for more authentic expression.

How broadcast channels work on Facebook

If you manage a Facebook Page and broadcast channels are accessible to you, then you can start a channel directly from your Page. If it’s not yet available for you yet, you can join the waitlist, and you’ll receive notification once this feature becomes accessible to you.

Once the broadcast channel is created and the first message is sent, followers of that Page will receive a one-time notification to join the channel. Only the creator of the channel can send messages, but members of the broadcast channel can react to messages and vote in polls.

You can become a member of broadcast channels from the profile of your preferred Page on Facebook, and the channels you’ve joined will appear in your list of chats. After joining a channel, you will begin receiving notifications whenever new content is posted. You can also choose to silence notifications by selecting the “mute” icon located at the top right corner of the channel thread.

Meta even mentioned several available broadcast channels that you can join immediately, including prominent figures such as Hrithik Roshan, Shilpa Shetty Kundra, and renowned platform Netflix.
