Nothing Chats was made to send Apple ID credentials to Nothing’s servers.

Remember a while ago when it was reported how Nothing was planning to allow its users to message iMessage users? Yes, Nothing has partnered with the Sunbird App to enable its users to enjoy chatting with their “blue-bubble” message friends. The news did come with its sort of concerns,  especially regarding privacy. It seems that they’ve come true as Nothing Chat’s beta version was removed from the Google Play Store. Let’s find out more about this.

First, let me quickly take you through the concept of Nothing Chats. Apple has recently shared that it will add RCS support to iMessages to improve the Android-iPhone texting experience. Now, Nothing is working on Nothing Chats which will allow the Nothing Phone users to text iMessage users. For this, Nothing has partnered with the infamous Sunbird app.

The progress on the Nothing Chats has almost reached the beta testing phase. But the beta version was recently removed from Google’s app store owing to security concerns. Media reports suggest that Nothing Chats requires access to the user’s iCloud account to send texts on iMessage. Now, let me remind you, that your iCloud stores all your information, from personal to bank details.

Text.com tried to research more about the Nothing Chats. During the process, they found out that Nothing Chats was made to send Apple ID credentials to Nothing’s servers. This is a major security risk. The investigation even found out that even though Sunbird had claimed that it had ISO27001 certification, the claims about end-to-end encryption were misleading. Messages could be stored on Sunbird’s server making unauthorised access possible.

Tech-brand Nothing shared the news of removing the beta version from the Play Store and said that it was working with Sunbird to fix certain “bugs”. People are now criticising Nothing over working with Sunbird which is known for such things and even for calling major security issues “bugs”.
