Siri is one of the most exciting features of Apple‘s latest smartphone – iPhone 4S. The intelligent voice recognition software responds to spoken requests for information, such as, the location of the nearest restaurant. The new feature, however, is reportedly not available for full-fledged use in the countries outside the US.

According to TUAW, Siri is available for limited usages in the countries outside the US and the only language it supports is English. Moreover, the Siri does not have the map directions and traffic data of countries other than the US. Acknowledging the problem, Apple has reportedly said that the required data such as maps and local search support will be incorporated in the additional nations next year. In addition, Siri will support four additional languages including Korean, Chinese, Japanese, Spanish and Italian.
Apple on its Siri page says, “Siri is available in Beta only on iPhone 4S and requires Internet access. Siri may not be available in all languages or in all areas, and features may vary by area. Cellular data charges may apply.”
According to MacStories, some of the limitations Siri’s features outside the US include unavailability of the Business lookup, map directions and traffic data. Moreover, Siri may not recognise “very specific” English accents, though it officially understands UK, US and Australian English. The Wolfram Alpha integration is only available to English-speaking countries presently.
