Instagram Web UI gets a user-friendly facelift: Here’s what’s changed

HIGHLIGHTS

Instagram for Web UI has a new sidebar.

The most used menu bar items are now available on the left-hand side.

Things should be more accessible because of this change.

Meta’s social networking apps are used by millions and so, any change made to them, however small they may be, piques curiosity and interest among people. One such design change made to the Instagram Web interface is likely to be appreciated by a lot of people. Let’s see what it is and what about it excites us.

Instagram for Web: New UI

As part of this renovation, Instagram has placed the main menu bar vertically on the left-hand side. So, you now have Home, Search, Explore, Messages, Notifications, Create, Profile, and a More option on this sidebar. Clicking on the ‘More’ option shows you Settings, Saved posts, an option to Switch accounts, and the Log Out button.

This sidebar design is very similar to the Twitter interface for the web. Whatever may be the inspiration, the sidebar makes things easy to access. And the overall UI feels snappier for some reason.

Now, if you don’t see the new interface on your end, note that it hasn’t been rolled out to all users. Meta spokesperson Christine Pai has told The Verge that “we are always working on ways to improve the Instagram.com web experience for people. We recently made updates to modernize Instagram.com, including improving the navigation, optimizing the video experience, and introducing a more immersive way to DM.”

So, the company seems to be more dedicated to this new UI and could be rolling it out to users in a phased manner.

Well, if you get it, you can experience the same thing on an iPad or any tablet for that matter. It’s not the same as having a dedicated app, but we will still take it.
