Instagram Stories getting support for cross posting to Facebook Stories: Report
Instagram is getting a new update that allows users to simultaneously post to both Instagram Stories as well as Facebook Stories.
Facebook is doing the obvious thing to expand the reach of Stories on its main app. The company has started rolling out a new update that allows Instagram users to simultaneously post to both Instagram Stories as well as Facebook Stories. The feature was first spotted in testing last month and TechCrunch has now confirmed that it is being rolled out to everyone.
With the new update, Instagram Stories get a redesigned 'Share' option while posting a story. Users of Instagram Stories now get a new "Your Facebook Story" option that will cross post on Facebook as well. The feature currently only works within Instagram Stories but Facebook is likely to reverse the program and enable posting from Facebook Stories to Instagram Stories as well. The Stories posted to Facebook from Instagram will feature Instagram label under the user's name to distinguish the medium.
"You now have the option to share your Instagram Stories to your Facebook Stories. We’re always working to make it easier to share any moment with the people who matter to you," a Facebook spokesperson told TechCrunch.
Since its launch, Instagram Stories has managed to gain over 250 million users and is growing faster than its main rival Snapchat. The feature is also seen to be driving new users to Instagram, which has grown to 800 million monthly active users. Facebook, however, is yet to turn its Stories into a mainstream product despite a user base of over 2 billion monthly active users.
Facebook Stories debuted in March and it has so far seen a lukewarm response. In an attempt to engage more users, Facebook tried greying out user profiles in its Stories section and is also rolling out the feature for its desktop version. With Instagram Stories gaining users faster, Facebook wants to leverage its growth to push its own Stories feature.
