Currently, Instagram offers a Limits tool that helps people limit interactions – like comments, DMs, tags and mentions – to their core community, like long-time followers or only people they follow back. Now, the company is expanding Limits so people, particularly teens, can limit those same interactions to Close Friends.

According to a post by Instagram head Adam Mosseri, this new update can come in handy if you’re being bullied, or just switched to a new school and want to keep your content close.

In my opinion, this expansion of the Limits tool to include Close Friends is a significant step towards creating a safer and more comfortable environment on Instagram. It allows users, especially teens, to have greater control over their interactions, ensuring that they can share content without the fear of negative or unwanted attention.

By focusing on a trusted circle, users can foster a more positive and supportive online experience. This feature not only helps in combating issues like cyberbullying but also empowers individuals to curate their social interactions more thoughtfully.

In related news, Meta recently confirmed that it is testing a new feature called “Peek” for Instagram. Unlike Instagram Stories, which last for 24 hours, Peek photos are expected to disappear after being viewed once. Users might only be able to capture photos in the moment using the camera and cannot upload them from their gallery.  Additionally, editing and applying filters will likely not be possible with Peek photos.
