Meta-owned Instagram introduced a Reels download feature for users in the United States earlier this year. Now, the company is rolling out this feature to all users globally. This means that you can now download Reels created by public accounts to your camera roll.
Instagram head Adam Mosseri announced on his Broadcast Channel, “You can now save reels created by public accounts to your camera roll – any reel you download will include a watermark with the creator’s Instagram handle. We rolled this out in the US earlier this year, and now it’s available globally.”

As Mosseri mentioned, the downloaded Reels will include a watermark with the creator’s Instagram handle name to ensure that the original creator receives proper credit for their content, even if it’s downloaded and shared elsewhere.

How to download Instagram Reels
Step 1: Open Instagram.
Step 2: Navigate to the reel that you want to download.
Step 3: Tap on the Share button.
Step 4: Now, select the Download option.
It’s important to note that public accounts can turn off the ability for people to download their reels. However, if a reel you love isn’t eligible to be downloaded, you can still tap the three dots and Save it to watch it later in the app.
In our opinion, the introduction of the ability to download Instagram Reels created by public accounts offers several benefits to users and creators. Downloading Reels will allow users to watch them offline without requiring an internet connection. Also, the creator’s watermark on Reels ensures that proper credit is given to the original creator, preventing unauthorised use.
