Instagram launches profile cards, a new way to share your profile: Here’s how this feature works
HIGHLIGHTS

Instagram has launched a new feature called profile cards.

This feature is inspired by the way many Gen Zs are treating their Insta accounts like digital resumes.

You can even customize the card's background with an image of your choice.

If you’ve ever found it tricky to share your Instagram handle with others, you’re in luck. Instagram has just introduced a new feature called profile cards that aims to make this process smoother and more stylish. Designed to function like a digital business card, this feature is rolling out globally, offering users an easier way to connect and share their profiles.

The concept behind the profile cards is simple but effective. Instead of just giving someone your handle, you can now share a two-sided card that provides a snapshot of your Instagram profile. One side features information from your profile, such as your bio, profile picture, and any links or music you’ve added. The other side includes a QR code that takes people directly to your account. You can even customize the card’s background with an image of your choice, allowing you to express your personality.

Meta, Instagram’s parent company, shared with TechCrunch that this new feature is inspired by the way many Gen Z users are treating their Instagram accounts like digital resumes. According to the company, more than half of Gen Zers aspire to become influencers, and this feature is designed to help them present themselves to the world in a more professional and polished manner.

While Instagram has offered QR codes for profile sharing since 2018, the new profile cards add more depth. Instead of a simple QR code, the profile cards feature provides details that let others get a better idea of who you are, potentially sparking more interest and interactions than before.

With its global rollout, the profile cards feature is set to make it easier for users to introduce themselves, build connections, and market their content creatively. Whether you’re attending an event, connecting with friends, or exploring collaborations, Instagram’s profile cards might just become your go-to tool for making a great first impression.
