IBM launches new apps for enterprise users

IBM has launched a new range of social networking and collaboration mobile apps. IBM says its new set of apps cater to enterprise-class requirements in India. The apps help employees share data, images and conduct other official activities. IBM says its new apps have been designed in view of rising demand of tablet devices for business purposes.

With the new apps, IBM also aims to encourage “Bring Your Own Device” work culture. It also conducted a study, which revealed that 73 per cent of business leaders surveyed allowed devices such as mobile phones and tablets to connect to their office networks.

“India is, undoubtedly, an emerging market for tablets and smartphones. More of these devices are finding their way into enterprises as employees entering the organization will expect to be allowed to use them. Employees increasingly seek to take full advantage of better browsers and innovative applications from app stores,” Karthik Padmanabhan, Country Manager, Lotus, IBM Software Group India/ South Asia is quoted as saying.

“The ability to quickly access Angry Birds is fun, but being able to also access business applications and sales leads is beguiling today’s customers.” IBM’s new apps also support social networking for iPad, instant messaging, access business documents, etc. The apps are however available for all the major mobile platforms such as Android, iOS and BlackBerry.
