If you’ve ever used Swiggy Genie to send items from one place to another, you probably didn’t think twice about the safety of your belongings. But for one Hyderabad couple, a delivery turned into a nightmare. Nishitha Gudipudi recently shared a horrifying experience on LinkedIn, warning others about the potential risks of using Swiggy’s Genie service.
According to Nishitha, her husband booked Swiggy Genie to pick up his backpack from one office and drop it off at another location in Madhapur. “The delivery guy picked up the bag, and half way through looks like opened and checked that there’s a laptop in it and switched off his phone. He basically stole the laptop and intitially we thought okay partially error at our end too to use genie to deliver the laptop but how things took a turn after is what really surprised and scared us,” she wrote.

When they reached out to Swiggy’s customer care, the response was far from reassuring. Swiggy allegedly couldn’t identify the delivery person, and when they attempted to do so, they sent the couple two different photos, asking them to identify which one was responsible.
The situation escalated when the delivery person was eventually contacted via WhatsApp. The man claimed that a friend had used his login and promised to check on the situation. Soon after, the couple received a WhatsApp message from the same number, demanding Rs 15,000 to return the laptop.

Nishitha’s LinkedIn post has since gone viral, raising concerns about the safety and security of using such delivery services. Her story serves as an important reminder for anyone considering using delivery apps for valuable items, urging the public to think twice before trusting their belongings to these services.
Update: In a statement, Swiggy said, “At Swiggy, safeguarding our consumers’ safety and trust is our top priority. This incident breaches our code of conduct, and the delivery executive involved has been removed from our platform. We are in contact with the customer and are supporting the authorities investigating the matter to resolve this issue promptly.”
