Google has announced a new Hangouts tab in Gmail that allows users to see which of their contacts are online first, before the offline contacts. The internet giant has also revamped its News and Weather app for Android.
The new Hangouts tab in Gmail, allows users to pin a contact to the top of the list. The app also lets users to send messages to offline contacts, which will be delivered to them whenever they check their Hangouts account.
Google stated in a blog post that users who haven't switched from Google Talk to Hangouts in Gmail, can do so via the 'Try the new Hangouts' option in chat settings. The internet giant added that the update will be rolled out over the next few days. Google had updated its Hangouts app with custom notification tones for individual contacts and unified SMS block list with the version 2.1.
Google has also revamped its News & Weather app to version 2.0 for devices running Android 4.0 or higher. The updated app displays the weather information on the top of headlines and users can also access detailed weather data when tapped. The updated News & Weather app allows users to 'expand stories for snippets and related articles'. The update also brings a help & feedback option along with quick access for add and remove news sections, which can also be accessed from the top-right corner menu.
