Google releases Calendar app on Play store; supports Android 4.0.3+ devices

Google has released the official Google Calendar app on the Play store. The app was previously available only on select Android devices such as Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus. With availability on Google Play store, users with OEM customised Android devices can also use the Calendar app.

This also means Google will be updating the Calendar app directly from the Play store, instead of releasing the update as part of the Google Apps package. The Google Calendar app includes various features such as view, create event, hide declined events, show the weeks, decide the week start and lots more.

“Google Calendar makes it easy for you to manage all your calendars in one place, including those from your Google accounts and other calendars synced to your Android device. Beyond supporting the basics such as creating, editing, deleting events and responding to invitations, the new Google Calendar app has extra features that help you manage your time and communication more easily,” says Google in a blog post.

The app has some extra features as well. Now users can snooze events directly from a notification. There’s also options to pinch to zoom in and out, set a home time zone and predefined messages to send quick “I’ll be late” updates to event participants directly from the notifications or the events itself.

Google has also expanded its sync period, which enables users to review past events from up to one year ago directly from their device.

Google Calendar app is available for devices running Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0.3 ) or Jellybean.

Separately, Google has also released Wishlists on the Play Store. The feature allows users to bookmark applications or other content like movies, magazines, music to your wishlist.
