Google Play 5.0 update brings dedicated Android wear app section

Google launches Android wear companion app, a dedicated section for Android wear apps and more on the Google Play Store.

Google has started rolling out its Play Services 5.0 update for Android devices. The update brings a dedicated category on the Play Store for apps designed for Android Wear, Android wearable services APIs and more.

The 'Apps for Android Wear' section in the Google Play includes apps like Evernote, Google Maps, Hangouts and Eat24 Food Delivery. Users can view the “Apps for Android Wear” page on the Play Store now.

Google also released the official Android Wear companion app for Android that connects your Android Wear device and allows you to adjust notification settings, control voice action preferences and more from your smartwatch.

The Play Service 5.0 update also brings a dynamic security provider as well as a new set of APIs called Quests along with an App Indexing API. A new "Save to Wallet" button has been added to Google Wallet with support for offers along with enhanced analytics and a new (default) implementation for purchases using the Google Play in-app billing service in Mobile Ads was also added.

The search giant announced the update via its Android Developers blog, and said, "Google Play services 5.0 is now rolled out to devices worldwide, and it includes a number of features you can use to improve your apps. This release introduces Android wearable services APIs, Dynamic Security Provider and App Indexing, whilst also including updates to the Google Play game services, Cast, Drive, Wallet, Analytics, and Mobile Ads."

Google notes, "The APIs provide an automatically synchronized, persistent data store and a low-latency messaging interface that let you sync data, exchange control messages, and transfer assets."
