Ever experienced that moment in a virtual meeting where your voice bounces back at you like an unwelcome guest? We’ve all been there. The struggle with echoes and audio feedback in online meetings has long been a common headache. But fear not, as Google has unveiled a new feature for Google Meet: adaptive audio.
Let’s dive into how Google Meet’s adaptive audio is set to revolutionise the virtual meeting experience.

“In this hybrid work era, we hear from customers that finding a video conferencing room to join a meeting is often difficult. With ‘adaptive audio,’ you and your team can join Google Meet using multiple laptops in close proximity without awkward echos and audio feedback,” Google announced in a Workspace Updates blogpost.

According to the tech giant, the new adaptive audio feature is a great benefit for organisations with not enough video conferencing rooms or without resources for dedicated conference room equipment.
The adaptive audio feature in Meet automatically synchronises microphones and speakers when it detects multiple laptops in a room. This ensures everyone is heard clearly, enabling teams to create “ad-hoc” meeting spaces with their laptops without crowding around a single device.
Above all, the adaptive audio feature offers users the freedom to participate in meetings when meeting rooms are unavailable, meeting room hardware is not working, or for smaller organisations lacking dedicated video conferencing equipment in every room. This versatility empowers organisations to utilise non-conventional meeting spaces like lounges, cafes, and other impromptu locations.
This new Google Meet feature is available for Google Workspace customers with the Gemini Enterprise, Gemini Business, Gemini Education, Gemini Education Premium, and the AI Meetings and Messaging add-on.
It’s important to note that the adaptive audio feature is currently rolling out. So, if you haven’t received the feature yet, just wait a little while.
