Google is the process of rolling out Chrome 74 for Android. The update to Google Chrome version 74.0.3729.112 for Android was announced a couple of days back and is still not available on all handsets. It was expected to bring around Dark Mode to the browser in preparation for Android Q; Google’s next OS release which is expected to bring a system wide Dark Mode. However, there is no straightforward way to enable Dark Mode on Chrome 74 for Android as of now. Google, though, has added a flag for Dark Mode in the latest update for Chrome on Android.

How to enable Dark Mode on Google Chrome 74 for Android

To enable Dark Mode on Chrome 74 for Android, users need to manually enter chrome://flags/#enable-android-night-mode in the address bar of the updated browser. After entering this, users will see an option called "Android Chrome UI dark mode" in the dropdown menu. Selecting this will enable Dark Mode on the browser.

Previously, Google Chrome had added Dark Mode to macOS with version 73.

For Android, Google Chrome version 74 also brings a bunch of other improvements, features and security fixes. With the update, the browser has received a feature to reduce motion sickness with the ability to “Remove animations”. Chrome version 74 also brings Sync and Google services to mobile, and deprecates “drive-by downloads in sandboxed iframes".

It is also making it easier for users to translate pages. "Translate any web page instantly by selecting Translate from the menu," the changelog reads on the official Google blog.

Google says that Chrome 74 for Android is a phased roll out and "it'll become available on Google Play over the next few weeks."
