Google has added a new ‘Kids’ tab that features ‘Teacher approved’ apps
These apps can be identified by a new badge
The feature will roll out in the US over the next few days, and internationally over the coming months
Google has announced that it will be making it easier for parents to find quality educational apps for their children on the Play Store. To do this, the app store now has a new ‘Kids’ tab that features ‘Teacher approved’ apps. These apps can be identified by a new badge, and are rated on factors like “age-appropriateness, quality of experience, enrichment, and delight.” The company also says that it will include information about why the app was highly rated in order to help parents understand if the app is right for their children. Google notes that the new ‘Teacher approved’ apps will first roll out in the US over the next few days, and will be available internationally over the coming months.
“Great content for kids can take many forms: Does it spark curiosity? Does it help your child learn? Is it just plain fun? To share the best apps for kids on the Play Store, we've teamed up with academic experts and teachers across the country, including our lead advisors, Joe Blatt (Harvard Graduate School of Education) and Dr Sandra Calvert (Georgetown University). Apps that have been rated by teachers and meet our quality standards receive a "Teacher approved" badge,” Mindy Brooks, UX Director, Google Play writes in the company’s official blog.
The new feature should be pretty useful for parents, especially during this time as most schools are closed due to the COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic. As such, most parents are looking for ways to keep their children educated and entertained at the same time. However, since the company has said that it may roll out the feature internationally in the coming months, the lockdown might be over by the time it makes its way to India.
