Gmail could soon get ‘Manage subscriptions’ feature: How it might work

HIGHLIGHTS

Google could introduce a new "Manage subscriptions" feature in Gmail.

The "Manage subscriptions" feature is expected to be available on the sidebar of Gmail.

Tapping on it will likely open a new page titled "Subscription."

Ever found your Gmail inbox overflowing with emails from various subscriptions, leaving you drowning in a sea of updates, newsletters, and promotional messages? It’s a common struggle. Sometimes, we willingly subscribe to these lists, but often, we end up on them unintentionally, making our inbox management a chaotic guessing game.

The issue? The unpredictable frequency of emails. You might expect a few updates occasionally, only to find yourself bombarded with dozens of emails in a single month. Fortunately, Google is reportedly stepping in to address this frustration, aiming to simplify the process of managing subscriptions right within Gmail itself with a “Manage subscriptions” option.

The “Manage subscriptions” feature is expected to be available on the sidebar of Gmail. Tapping on it will likely open a new page titled “Subscriptions,” reports PiunikaWeb.

This page is expected to display all mailing lists you’re subscribed to, likely organised according to specific criteria.

Mailing lists could potentially be filtered based on the volume of emails received per quarter, categorised as less than 10, between 10-20, or 20 or more. Each sender’s logo may be displayed alongside a button allowing you to unsubscribe from the mailing list.

Interestingly, some users on Reddit reported encountering this new option randomly, without any intentional modifications. However, they were unable to use the feature as it loaded a blank page. This suggests that Google may have accidentally activated it through a server-side tweak prematurely.

A full release might be imminent, although the option hasn’t appeared on the latest Gmail version for all users yet.

It’s important to note when and if Google releases the Manage subscriptions feature is still unknown.
