Gboard for iOS makes it easier to create and send custom GIFs
A new update for the app adds the GIF button on the word suggestion bar and gives users the option of creating either a looping or a fast forward GIF
Google’s keyboard app, Gboard on iOS has recently been updated and now makes it easier for users to create and send their own reaction GIFs. The update has added theCreate GIF button on the word suggestion bar. The Verge reports that the button allows users to record shot clips from either the front or the rear mounted cameras and gives the user options to record in two modes.
The first mode is called ‘Loop’ and as the name would suggest, it records three seconds of footage, which is then looped. ‘Fast-Forward’ allows users to record up to one minute of footage and then speeds up the result. Once the user has created the GIF, they can copy and paste it into their message and send it across. It is not yet known if or when the feature will be rolled out to Android users.
The Gboard keyboard was released a few years back and brought with it a number of new features such as built in Google search, GIFs, emoji suggestions and more. Last year, the company rolled out support for 22 indic languages.
Further, Facebook has also noted the rise of GIFs as a means of expression. Last year, the company announced support for GIFs in comments and this year, they have promised to increase focus on ‘visual messaging’ on its Messenger app. This includes GIFs, emojis and more. The social neworking site also noted that over 500 billion emojis were sent on the platform along woth 18 billion GIFs.
