Foursquare for iOS gets complete redesign and new features
The visual changes are more in line with iOS 7’s theme, but the bigger changes lie under the hood, allowing for better performance and battery life as well as smart recommendations via push notifications.
Foursquare is undoubtedly the most popular location-based social networking app, with more than 40 million users globally. Which is why, an update as major as this is bound to get the headlines. Foursquare for iOS has been completely overhauled, with a bunch of visual and performance changes. First, is the entire effort of redesigning the UI to bring it more in line with the iOS 7 design philosophy. However, the major changes reside inside, with improved performance and push notifications. The latest version of Foursquare is 7.0.
The latest version of the app alerts you if and when you do reach a new location, somewhere you haven’t been before, the push notification will alert you about what might be interesting in that particular area.
According to Foursquare, this passive location feature is designed to balance performance and battery life on iOS devices. However, no background app features are running with Foursquare 7.0, which is one the reasons for the claimed improvement in battery life.
“Our goal was to give users the best signal without impacting battery life”, says John Steinback, Foursquare VP of Product Experience.
The app can be downloaded from the Apple App Store, directly on your iOS 7 device only.
