The company has announced that it has partnered with restaurants in Hyderabad and Chennai to deliver 7,000 food packets to victims everyday
Foodpanda has announced that it will deliver 7,000 hygienic and healthy food packets to those affected by the Chennai floods every day. The initiative is in partnership with restaurants located in Hyderabad and Chennai (Bawarchi and Paradise Biryani). The company has partnered with the NGO, GiveAway, to distribute the food packets containing 3.5 tonnes of vegetarian biryani. These packets will be delivered to Amir Mahal Palace where volunteers from Foodpanda and GiveAway will distribute the food to over 15,000 people in Chennai. They have also announced that they are opening a special relief aid called ‘With You Chennai’ where users can help contribute to the effort by donating meals.
Zomato has also started an initiative called ‘Meal for Flood Relief’ wherein users can buy a meal for someone in Chennai. Zomato would then add another meal to the order and send it to areas where people are stranded. Yesterday, Zomato’s Deepinder Goyal tweeted that the company was pausing the service as the initiative got an overwhelming response and they didn’t want to overburden their partnering restaurants. Other companies are also offering to help to the victims of the flood. Paytm announced that they were offering a Rs. 30 recharge for any mobile while Ola said that it was working with the fire department to help those stranded due to the rains. Facebook also activated its Safety Check tool to let people mark themselves or their friends ‘safe’ from the floods in Chennai. Telecom operators like BSNL will not be charging its customers in Tamil Nadu for a week, while others are offering free talktime and data for their subscribers.
