HIGHLIGHTS

Get ready to "Tap, Tap" again as the game returns in August with a new multiplayer feature that is supposed to make it "less addictive."

Creator of the hit indie game Flappy Bird, Dong Nyugen, has revealed that he is bringing the game back in August. Nyugen revealed the details in an interview to CNBC. He also said that the game will incorporate a new multiplayer version as well which he hopes will lessen the addictive powers of the game.

Nyugen said that he saw first-hand, how Flappy Bird was negatively affecting people’s lives. Making a return in August, the creator says that he has added a mulitplayer feature which will prevent the negative addiction of the game. It is still not clear how the new feature will prevent mindless addiction as the details have not been revealed yet.

At the peak of the game’s popularity, Nyugen was reportedly making $50,000 per day from the game. He had taken the game off app stores for Android and iOS devices in February earlier this year saying that it became an addictive product. The popularity of the game became so massive that an iPhone with Flappy Bird installed in it went up for sale on eBay for almost $90,000!

Right after the game was deleted, clones of the game started hitting the app stores which were later rejected by Apple and Google for containing the word “flappy” in their titles. Popular mobile game maker, Rovio, also joined the race with a Flappy Bird inspired game called ‘Retry’.

None of the clones have been able to gain similar popularity as the original game. Fans of the game are already excited for the game’s return.
