Facebook’s apps grab top four spots for most popular apps of the decade
Facebook-owned apps dominated the list of most downloaded apps and games of the last ten years.
In terms of games, Subway Surfers was the most downloaded game of the decade.
Clash of Clans ranked number 1 in the list of top games by consumer spend.
As this decade comes to a close, App Annie, an analytics firm has published a report for the most downloaded apps and games of the last ten years. Despite data privacy scandals and courting controversies for a couple of years,FTC considering blocking Facebook from integrating Whatsapp, Instagram has dominated the list. The top four spots are claimed by Facebook's family of apps – Facebook, Messenger, WhatsApp and Instagram.
"Communication and social media apps are consumer favourites, accounting for 7 of the top 10 apps by downloads this decade," says App Annie.
The remaining six apps on the list are what one would expect- microtransaction games, social media and telecommunications apps. Snapchat has grabbed the fifth spot, while Skype has managed to snag the sixth spot. Despite its short history, TikTok can be found at number seven in the list of top 10 most downloaded apps of this decade. TikTok is followed by UC Browser, YouTube and Twitter at number 8, 9 and 10 respectively.
However, none of the Facebook apps made it to the list in terms of top apps by spend. Unsurprisingly, this category was dominated by video and music apps like Netflix. The only non-audio/video app in the category is Tinder, which came in second in terms of consumer spending.
Coming to the most downloaded game, Subway Surfers grabbed the first spot followed by Candy Crush Saga and Temple Run 2 takes the third spot. Further, Clash of Clans came in fifth. My Talking Tom grabs the 4th spot.
In terms of consumer spend, Clash of Clans ranked number 1 and is followed by Monster Strike and Candy Crush Saga. Within its short span of existence, Pokemon Go made it to the list as well and ranked eighth.
