Facebook introduces 60 new Timeline apps

Updated on 19-Jan-2012

Facebook has introduced 60 new apps, which allow users to share things such as photos, travel and destination on their new profile, Timeline. Users can already share the music they are listening or news articles they are reading via the new Timeline platform. The new Timeline Apps platform helps broaden Open Graph from its present multimedia integration into the social network to include travel, food, shopping, fitness and more. Unveiled back at f8 2011 event, Timeline Apps presently features more than 60 “lifestyle” apps, including eBay, Runkeeper, Urbanspoon, Tripadvisor and Rotten Tomatoes, allowing users to experience “frictionless sharing” on the social networking site.

“Our vision for Timeline and our vision for the application platform is whatever you love and whatever story you want to tell, you can add that to your Timeline,” said Carl Sjogreen, director of product management for Facebook on Wednesday. “Our message to developers is ‘start your engines’,” Sjogreen added.

Timelines Apps obviously requires a Facebook user have the new Timeline profile. Facebook has also posted some information for developers about integration of their services with Open Graph and Timeline App.

Back in September last year, Facebook chief executive Mark Zuckerberg launched the new Timeline profile for Facebook, focussing on the users’ interests such as food, music, books, and places. There will be security settings available, allowing users to limit who will be able to follow their activities. Check out the new Facebook Timeline apps here.
