Facebook has updated its iOS app to version 5.1 which brings with it a bunch of new features, such as easier chatting with friends, faster sharing of multiple photos, as well as the ability to give real gifts (US only).
The Facebook for iOS app now gives users the ability to swipe left anywhere in the app to quickly see who’s available online and send a message. Friends can also be added to the favourite bar for quicker and easier access. The camera feature added to the app too is quite nifty, giving users the ability to share multiple photos – very reminiscent of the Facebook camera app.
Facebook Gifts is a new feature in the app that is available to users in the US only as of now. The feature gives users the options to purchase sub $50 gifts like Starbucks cards, desserts and stuffed animals. Facebook Gifts has been a part of the social networking service since September and was only available via a browser.
When first releaseed, all was not well with the new update. Most users of the updated app said that it worked fine, but significant number reported that they faced a few problems. Facebook Friends and groups were not displaying, and the app also showed a broken news feed and didn’t load the Timeline as well. Facebook however, has addressed the issue and the app should now be working fine for all users.
iOS users can download the app for free here.
