Twitter, which was rebranded to X under Elon Musk, is spreading its wings and is now venturing into the TV business. In a recent announcement, Musk shared that the beta version of the X TV app is now live for Android TV. It is now available on devices such as LG, Amazon Fire TV, and Google TV. Eventually, it will be made available to other devices too.
What Musk did not share was when this X TV app will be launched officially. As per reports, the Amazon Fire TV received the app in late July, while LG got it on August 29. This means that the approach to distribution is pretty slow and steady. Until then, let’s take a look at what we can expect from this app.
Since it is X, we would expect something related to social media. But that is not the case. X TV is a proper OTT streaming service. Its Google Play Store description calls it as “X-Stream Service TV”. It offers a variety of live channels including news, sports, movies, music, and weather. Unlike traditional TV services, it will not require set-top boxes.
Let’s take a look at some interesting features that the X TV can pack.
Currently, X TV’s beta version is available. To access it, you need to have an X account. It is currently only available on Android smart TVs. You can find it by searching for X TV in the device’s app store.
