X (formerly Twitter) is rolling out an early version of the audio and video calling feature. Several users have reported on the platform that they have received a notification that says, “Audio and Video calls are here!”
“Early version of video & audio calling on X,” X-owner Elon Musk posted today.

According to X user “DogeDesigner”, this feature is available in Settings > Privacy & Safety > Direct Messages > Enable Audio & Video Calling.
Also, this feature allows users to select who can call them. Users can select from these options: People in your address book, People you follow, and Verified users.
It’s important to note that some X users claimed on Musk’s post that they haven’t received the feature. So, it’s still unclear how widely this feature has been released or if non-Premium users can use it.
Few months back, Musk said that the calling feature will come for all platforms including Android, iOS, Mac, and Windows PC. Musk also mentioned that users will not have to link their phone numbers in order to make calls on the platform. Moreover, X designer Andrea Conway had shared images of the feature, hinting at how the audio and video call UI could look like on the platform. The design, shared by Conway, showed that users will be able to make calls from the DM screen on the platform.
Last month, tech veteran-turned-investor Chris Messina discovered code within the X app that revealed that the audio and video calling feature would be accessible exclusively to X Premium members and not to all users of the X app.
