Elon Musk recently confirmed that we’ll see new interface changes along with formatting changes on Twitter. The new owner of Twitter took to the platform to announce the upcoming change.
"Easy swipe right/left to move between recommended vs followed tweets rolls out later this week. The first part of a much larger UI overhaul. Bookmark button (de facto silent like) on Tweet details rolls out a week later. Long-form tweets early Feb," he tweeted.
A user tweeted the following recently – "BREAKING:: @elonmusk says you will soon be able to bold and italicise words on Twitter!". Elon Musk responded to the same, saying "Any minute now …" confirming that the functionality will soon roll out to the masses.
It is important to note that you can italicize and bold text even now by using third-party Unicode text tools, which use HTML codes in order to tweet text in italics or bold. However, everyone is not aware of this, and the upcoming functionality will make it easier for people to format their texts as intended. This may help some people identify sarcasm on Twitter.
"Twitter will soon add ability to attach long-form text to tweets, ending absurdity of notepad screenshots." tweeted Musk back in November. At this moment, the character limit is only 280 characters.
