Popular audio collaboration platform Discord has a new Nitro Basic subscription plan, an alternative for those who find the main Nitro plan too expensive. Discord has also released a new in-app section called Activities that includes casual games and, to everyone’s delight, YouTube integration. Here is everything you need to know about the new Nitro Basic plan, its cost/availability, and the new Activities features.
What does the Discord Nitro Basic plan offer?
The Discord Nitro Basic plan is only the second subscription released by the platform. Per the official blog, Nitro Basic “includes a selection of some of the most-loved Nitro features that help you better express yourself on Discord, including custom emoji anywhere, bigger file uploads, and more.” Other features available for Nitro Basic users include custom stickers anywhere, 300+ Nitro exclusives, a Nitro profile badge, and custom video backgrounds. The Nitro Basic plan does not include access to more Activities, HD streaming, animated avatar, profile banner, and the ability to send longer messages up to 4,000 characters.
In a nutshell, the Nitro Basic plan has all the essential features that Discord provides as a part of the regular Nitro plan. Those who are new to Discord and want to get some additional features than what the platform offers for free can go for the Nitro Basic plan.
The Discord Nitro Basic plan is $2.99 per month, while the regular Nitro plan costs $9.99 per month. As far as the availability is concerned, the Nitro Basic plan will be available globally from October 20, 2022.
Watch YouTube videos with your friends on Discord Activities
Now, let’s talk about the new Activities feature launched by Discord, which defined it as “a way to instantly enjoy shared experiences with friends, such as games and media, on Discord itself.” Essentially, the Discord Activities section has in-built games and other things that can be done by a group of users together. Starting this week, Discord users can access two Activities, including Putt Party and Watch Together. While Putt Party is a miniature golf game, Watch Together is what everyone is talking about right now.
Through the Watch Together feature, Discord allows users to integrate and watch YouTube videos together on the platform. In the past, YouTube forced Discord to remove two YouTube bots, and since then, the company has been working with YouTube to launch the integration officially. From what it looks like, Putt Party and Watch Together should also be available to Nitro Basic users.
To summarise, Activities are a way to enable users to hang around, chat or even play together and have a good time on Discord. However, more options such as Poker Night, Sketch Heads, Chess in the Park, Checkers in the Park, Land-io, Letter League, and Blazing 8s will only be available to the Nitro subscribers. Further, different users can enjoy different activities in the same voice channel.
