Comscore releases of top 10 most used apps worldwide

Comscore has released the results of its survey of the top 10 most widely used apps around the world. The survey was conducted on people between the age group of 18 to 34 years. Of the ten, four Facebook owned apps have made it to the list.

Apps have become an integral part of our lives, be it gaming, browsing social media, listening to music or exercising. Comscore had conducted a survey asking people between the age of 18 to 34 and about which apps they use the most. The analytics company has now released the result of its survey and it lists the top 10 apps that are most widely used across the globe. Lets dive in and find out if your favorite apps made the list.

1) Amazon
Jeff Bezos’ e-commerce platform Amazon has been expanding. The company is opening a secondary headquarter in North America and has plans to invest more than $5 billion to make the new headquarters. Amazon also bought Whole Foods in the US recently, gaining leverage on a whole new business. That, along with devices like the Echo speakers and its companions, the Amazon Prime Video service and more, takes Amazon’s name across borders and all over the globe. No wonder it’s at the top of Comscore’s list.

2) Gmail 
Gmail is one of Google’s core businesses and has recently exported its Anti-phishing security checks to its iOS app. Gmail also makes use of an integrated machine learning algorithm coupled with Google safe browsing to detect early phishing attacks. Google used to scan users Gmail to generate targeted apps, however, after facing criticism for it they issued a statement saying that the ads would now be based on other data such as search queries or browsing habits of users.

3) Facebook
Facebook is the most widely used social media platform. Apart from social networking, the company also dwells in Artificial Intelligence and Virtual reality. In order to strengthen its own conversational AI, Facebook recently acquired an AI focused startup Oslo. The company is currently testing two new features for its Android app. The first feature is of instant videos, which preloads videos on Wi-Fi for undelayed playback and another feature allows its users to create a private profile.

4) Facebook Messenger 
Facebook recently launched the Lite version of its full fledged Messenger app and the Messenger Lite app has crossed more than 500 million downloads on Google Play store. It takes up less than 10MB device space and is aimed at those running low-end devices or those who access the internet at 2G speeds. Messenger has been adding a slew of new features with every update. The app can run on many legacy devices with low specs as well and supports some Android Gingerbread devices as well.

5) YouTube
YouTube has revamped its design and changed its long time tube-in-tube logo as well. The video sharing platform’s app has also started rolling out HDR video playback feature for the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Xperia XZ Premium smartphones. Similar to the website, the YouTube app was updated with the option of controlling playback speed. 

6) Google Maps
Google Maps is pretty accurate when it comes to finding routes, distance and real-time traffic conditions as compared to other online mapping services. The service recently rolled out a feature which shows parking spots on maps. Google Maps also features an offline download option that allows users to download certain areas for offline access.

7) Google Search
Google is the most prominent go to website for searching anything and its app is one of the easiest ways to Google anything you want. The Google Search app not only searches the web for user’s queries, but it also searches your device for contacts, files or even music.

8) Apple app store
Apple’s app store is the backbone of the entire Apple ecosystem. Apple’s app store offers curated apps for iOS devices and with the latest iOS 11 launch, the app store will sport a cleaner design with a more organised approach. Apple has launched its latest flagship iPhone X, along with the iPhone 8 and the iPhone 8 Plus in its annual event yesterday. The new phones will bring with them a slew of AR capabilities and the App Store is all set to get some exciting new aigmented reality apps.

9) Whatsapp
The messaging platform recently announced Whatsapp for business officially, which is targeted mainly at businesses and will allow easier communication between people and businesses. Whatsapp is also rolling out Picture-in-Picture video calling, text only status updates in its latest version. Whatsapp is also testing a test recall feature which allows users to recall or delete the sent text messages.

10) Instagram
The social media platform is testing an addition of “tap to view” function. This feature will allow users to view a product’s image with a price tag attached to it. Tapping on the price tag will redirect users to a checkout page directly. Facebook has been trying to make its feed more like stories, however, it has proved unsuccessfull till now.
