BlackBerry Messenger confirmed as coming “soon” on Samsung Galaxy smartphones
But before you get all excited, let us specify that this rather curious press release says that the app is confirmed only for users in Africa. Which makes us wonder....
Samsung has confirmed that the BlackBerry Messenger application will soon be available on the Galaxy smartphones “soon”. The rather puzzling press release from the Korean company says that the app “will be available in the Google Play and the Samsung App store soon and available to all Samsung GALAXY smartphone consumers across Africa.” This press release was picked up by N4BB.
“At Samsung we are all about collaboration, innovation and driving consumer experience based on choice, value and customisation to suit every lifestyle. As such, bringing a top tier messaging service such as BBM is another way that we are expanding the catalogue of our messaging services and offering customers an amazing way to stay instantly connected with colleagues, friends and family.”, saysGeorge Ferreira, VP and COO of Samsung Electronics Africa.
BlackBerry, on its part, is trying to play up the “D” and the “R” novelty factor. “BBM provides one of the best and most robust mobile messaging experiences today. BBM has always set the standard for mobile instant messaging and we are thrilled to bring this experience to Samsung customers across Africa,” said Andrew Bocking, Executive Vice President BBM at BlackBerry. “BBM is loved by people who rely on fast, trusted messaging, along with the immediacy that our delivered and read statuses bring. Samsung customers will soon join the BBM nation in its love of the “D” and “R” notifications.”
While this is clearly a confusing development, we would consider this as progress, which essentially shows that BBM is very much on its way to Android devices soon. If nothing else, take this as a confirmation that the app is indeed in the works, after months of just hearing about it. And for those of you not using Samsung Galaxy smartphones, worry not, because the BBM app will be available on all Android devices via the Google Play Store.
BBM is BlackBerry’s exclusive instant messaging service, that was till now available only on BB smartphones. Apart from text messaging, BBM also supports video and voice chats, and the ability to link compatible third party apps.
