BHIM app crosses 10 million downloads in 10 days
The app crossed the 3 million downloads mark on January 3 and is currently only available on Android
Ten days after being launched, the BHIM app has been downloaded over 10 million times. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his delight at the milestone tweeting, “Delighted to know that in a span of 10 days there have been over 10 million downloads of the BHIM App.” He also said that the app was a “fine example of @makeinindia & how technology is being effectively used to end the menace of corruption & black money.” It was noted in the official press release that over two million transactions were made across UPI (United Payments Interface) and USSD (Unstructured Supplementary Service Data) platforms.
The app crossed the 3 million downloads mark on January 3 and is currently only available for Android devices. There are also plans to bring the app to iOS and offer it it multiple languages. The app only offer Hindi and English language options for users.
To recall, The BHIM (Bharat Interface for Money) app was launched last month and was developed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). It aims to facilitate the move to a cashless economy and offers users an easier way to to check their balance and switch between accounts if they have multiple bank accounts.The app currently supports 32 banks and money can be sent to non-UPI supported banks via IFSC (Indian Financial System Code) and an Account Number.
