Apple to establish Design & Development Accelerator in Bangalore
The facility is expected to open in early 2017 and aims to accelerate growth amongst the iOS developer community
Apple has announced that it will establish an iOS App Design and Development Accelerator in Bengaluru. The company says that the initiative is aimed at supporting engineering talent and accelerating growth amongst the iOS developer community in the country. The facility will provide developers with support and guidance on Swift, which is Apple’s programming language used to create apps for iOS, Mac, Apple TV, and Apple Watch. Further, Apple experts will lead briefings and provide one-on-one app reviews for the developers every week. The iOS App Design and Development Accelerator is expected to open in early 2017.
Apple CEO, Tim Cook stated, “India is home to one of the most vibrant and entrepreneurial iOS development communities in the world. With the opening of this new facility in Bengaluru, we’re giving developers access to tools which will help them create innovative apps for customers around the world.”
This announcement comes ahead of Cook’s arrival in India, where he is expected to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It is speculated that one of the topics of discussion could be related to the manufacturing of iPhones in the country. It was earlier reported that Apple's chief manufacturer, Foxconn, may be in talks with the Indian Government to manufacture the devices in India. The company has seemingly proposed a $10 billion facility in Maharashtra and is scouting for land to set it up.
