Apple is raising the price of apps and in-app purchases due to weaker currency rates

Apple will soon increase the prices of apps and in-app purchases in the UK, India and Turkey. Apple is reportedly hiking the price of apps and in-app purchases due to changing exchange rates and weakening of Rupee against the Dollar.

Apple has not confirmed the change in price but BBC reports the cost of $0.99 app will become Rs 80 effective this week, as opposed to current price of Rs 60. The change in price translates to a 33 percent hike, the highest among affected countries. In the UK, Apple is increasing the price by nearly 25 percent due to weak exchange rate for pound post Brexit vote. In Turkey, prices will be hiked by 30 percent from 2.69 to 3.49 lira.

Apple's decision to change prices is mainly due to weaker currencies and change in local taxes. In India, the app store prices will include 14 percent service tax along with addition of 0.5 percent Krishi Kalyan Cess (KKC) and Swachh Bharat Cess (SBC).

According to 9to5Mac, Apple is starting to notify developers about the change in price and the revised price will reflect within next seven days. While the prices are being hiked, developers can continue offering their apps for cheaper price.
