If you’ve recently updated your YouTube app on Android and noticed some strange behaviour, you’re not the only one. A growing number of users are reporting bugs that have appeared after the platform’s latest update, which added granular playback speed controls. While the update was expected to enhance user experience, it seems to have caused a couple of frustrating glitches instead.
One of the most commonly reported issues involves the miniplayer. This feature, which lets users keep watching a video in a small window while scrolling through the app, is now acting up. When users try to move the miniplayer to the right side of the screen, it simply disappears.

Reddit users, including one who shared a video example, have pointed out that the miniplayer seems to exit the screen from the right, only reappearing when you press the video thumbnail again. Interestingly, this bug doesn’t appear in the latest stable or beta versions of the app, so it seems to be specific to the recent update, reports Android Police.
Another major issue causing frustration is a playback resumption bug. Users have noticed that when watching YouTube videos in portrait mode, playback won’t resume properly after switching to full-screen landscape mode and then back to portrait. Essentially, after pausing a video in landscape mode and returning to portrait mode, the video refuses to resume until you go back to full-screen mode. This bug, also reported by Reddit users, seems to affect many, though it also doesn’t appear in the most recent stable and beta builds.

While it’s still unclear why these bugs surfaced after the November 7 update, it’s clear that they are causing inconvenience for many YouTube users. For now, the quickest fix for some users has been to roll back to an older version of the app, which resolves the issues. If that’s not an option for you, the only choice may be to wait for a fix from YouTube, which is likely to address these bugs in a future update. Fortunately, while annoying, the bugs don’t make the app completely unusable, so most users can still watch videos, but with some inconvenience.
