Amidst all the excitement, BlackBerry had announced that the BlackBerry Messenger service will soon be available on Android and Apple’s iPhone. This was last month. Fast forward to today, and what you have is a tweet from BlackBerry Worldwide, claiming that BBM is sitting Android and the iPhone on 27th June 2013. The tweet is accompanied by a picture of the iPhone running BBM. Well, at least what looks like the splash screen of a possible app! However, it is imperative to specify that there is still no confirmation (or denial) from a company representative, still.
Initially, the BlackBerry Messenger on Android and iOS, will support BBM text chats, group chats, voice note sharing, and BBM Groups. However, it is believed that BlackBerry will eventually bring all the BBM features as seen on the BB10 version to both Android and iOS – voice calls, video calls and screen share.
It is also expected that BBM on Android and the iPhone would be free to download and use, much in line of what rivals like Whatsapp, Facebook Messenger and Google Hangouts offer.
While this news does create considerable excitement, we would hold on for the time being and wait for an official word from BlackBerry.
